2017 Chevy Silverado Vs. 2017 Toyota Tacoma

The Chevy Silverado and the Toyota Tacoma are two of the top-selling trucks in America, and that’s exactly what makes it hard to choose between them. Price is a big consideration, but there are other things you should think about while looking for the perfect truck. This side-by-side comparison of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab WT and the 2017 Toyota Tacoma SR could be just what you need.

Price

Whenever anyone is getting a truck, the price is a huge consideration. A vehicle that is more expensive should have more features, and in this case, the Silverado is the pricier of the two. The basic Silverado 1500 Regular Cab WT has a starting MSRP of $31,525. The basic Toyota Tacoma SR has a much lower starting MSRP of $24,120. This is a considerable difference, but it shouldn’t be the only thing that sells you on your truck.

Towing and Payload

Anyone who gets a truck should be concerned about the amount it can haul. In this case, the Silverado is the winner. Chevy can handle more weight compared to Toyota overall. The Silverado has a maximum tow of 6,600 lbs. and a maximum payload of 1,870 lbs. It also has a high curb weight of 4,904 lbs.

The Toyota Tacoma SR is a much smaller truck, so it can’t pull as much as the Silverado 1500. However, for its size, it’s pretty remarkable. The Tacoma SR has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. and a maximum payload of 1,405 lbs.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy is another huge influencing factor for purchasing a new truck. In this case, the Silverado 1500 Regular Cab and the Toyota Tacoma SR have very similar gas mileage. The Silverado has slightly less with 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the freeway. The Toyota Tacoma gets 19 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Three miles per gallon may not seem like a lot, but if you spend most of your time in the city, it could be a consideration.

Features

People who use their truck for work also want to use it for play, meaning the more features, the better. The Silverado comes with less technological features when compared to the Tacoma, which could be a huge factor for some. The Chevy doesn’t have Bluetooth connectivity, but it does come with a 4.2-inch diagonal screen, USB ports, four speakers in the cab, and an auxiliary input.

The Tacoma comes with Entune Audio, which focuses on providing a quality entertainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, a 6.1-inch touch-screen display, advanced voice recognition, hands-free phone capabilities, six speakers, an auxiliary input, and an integrated backup camera. The Toyota may have less power, but it comes with much more features and at a lower price.
