Which 2019 Buick Regal TourX Is Right For You?

In the past few years, the SUV has been king. Particularly in the crossover SUV segment, buyers are snatching up the body styles in record numbers as their taste for a higher seating position on a unibody car platform grows. Because of this, you may have noticed that you don't see many station wagons on the road anymore. Not many automakers continue to produce the "original" SUV. In fact, even the name "station wagon" typically conjures up images of wood-paneled behemoths from years gone by. That's not the case with the Buick Regal TourX.

Perhaps its novelty is what makes it unique among other car offerings in the North American market. Americans can only choose between a handful of wagon options, and most are made by European brands. Think Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo. Perhaps that's why Buick included the Regal TourX in its lineup in 2018. Since it's competing with European luxury brands, it might as well have the feel of a European automaker. This isn't your parents' 1970s station wagon; this is a refined modern people mover. If you would prefer a more standard-sized model, the smaller Regal sedan is available.

TourX

The base trim of the 2019 Buick Regal TourX is simply named the "TourX." For a base price of $29,995, buyers will find a 250 horsepower 2.0L turbo engine with intelligent AWD featuring active twin clutch. This engine is capable of 295 lb-ft of torque and has an 8-speed automatic transmission. Buick's QuietTuning-branded noise-dampening technology keeps the cabin serene and peaceful. The whole vehicle rides on 18-inch aluminum wheels. A rear-vision camera comes standard as well as halogen headlamps with LED daytime running lights. Lastly, at this price point, the rear seats are a 60/40 split fold.

Preferred

The 2019 Buick Regal TourX Preferred trim is a slight step up from the Regal TourX trim. The driver's seat now features eight-way power settings with two-way power lumbar. Over on the passenger's side, the seat is now height-adjustable. A couple of more luxurious features around the cabin include an auto-dimming rearview mirror and leather-wrapped steering wheel. All of this minor upgrades come standard for an MSRP of $33,595. However, we suggest skipping this trim and opting for the Essence. Even though more available options open up at the Preferred trim level compared to the Regal TourX, we just don't see buyers choosing this trim as their preferred model.

Essence

The 2019 Buick Regal TourX Essence is only a couple thousand dollars more expensive than the Preferred trim (MSRP $35,995). The included standard features, however, make us think that the Essence is a better bang for your buck than opting for the midling Preferred trim. Standard features on the Regal TourX Essence include heated leather front seats and a heated leather steering wheel.

In the rear, passengers will find that the seating bench is a 40/20/40 split-fold. The liftgate of the truck also has hands-free power opening and closing. There's even an LED logo projection. Speaking of technology, remote start is also standard, as well as the Buick infotainment system on an 8-inch color touchscreen. Plus, the entire cabin has ambient interior lighting. Now, this is the affordable luxury we've been waiting for!
