Nissan Leaf
The Nissan Leaf starts at around $28K, making it one of the most affordable electric cars on the market. Its intuitive infotainment system is easy to use, and it comes with convenient features like proximity keyless entry, push-button start, and automatic climate control.
With the base powertrain, you’ll have a 147-horsepower electric motor and a driving range of about 149 miles. However, with the optional two-motor, 214-horsepower powertrain, you’ll get a range of 212 miles.
Chevrolet Bolt
The Chevy Bolt is another popular option for seniors, with a starting price of around $25K, making it even more affordable than the Leaf. It offers a more lively base engine, delivering 200 horsepower. It also delivers up to 259 miles of range on a full charge.
As for features, you’ll get an easy-to-read 8-inch digital gauge cluster and a user-friendly 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Many of the standard features of the Leaf also come with this model, such as proximity keyless entry and automatic climate control. On top of that, you’ll get driver assistance features that aid in safety and alertness out on the road.
Mini Electric Hardtop
The Mini Electric Hardtop from BMW starts at around $30K. This model comes with luxurious synthetic leather seating, dual-zone climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, among other things. Of course, you’ll also get an infotainment system and proximity keyless entry too.
On the downside, it doesn’t make for a good road trip car as it only has a range of about 114 miles. Fortunately, with a 240-volt outlet, it can charge in as little as 8 hours.
Hyundai Ioniq 6
The Hyundai Ioniq 6, starting at around $37K, features a 225-horsepower electric motor powered by a battery that gives you an outstanding 361 miles of range. These are some of the most impressive numbers of any electric car on the market.
The dashboard features larger 12-inch displays for its digital gauge and infotainment system, making those features easier to read and navigate. Additionally, seniors will find the vehicle offers plenty of helpful driver assistance features, most of which engage automatically.
Tesla Model 3
The Tesla Model 3 can be purchased for around $35K, depending on your location, and its features are similar to that of the Ioniq 6. However, some seniors may find the 15-inch touchscreen in the Model 3 to be a tad distracting. However, luxury features like synthetic leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, and heated seats may appeal to you.
It should be noted that the Tesla Model 3 offers three different powertrains. The base powertrain delivers 272 miles of range. The second option is the all-wheel drive, dual-motor powertrain that gets you 341 miles of range, while the third option gives you 315 miles of range - but quicker acceleration.
All in all, any one of these new small electric cars would make an excellent choice for seniors, depending on their driving needs. While the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Bolt offer greater affordability, the other options offer superior luxury and an attractive exterior.
