Top 10 Cars That Guzzle the Most Gas

With prices for gas fluctuating as often as they do, hybrid cars are becoming a more viable option by the day. But if you don’t mind paying as much as some people’s rent for gas, then these cars just might be the right choice for you.

Whether it’s for that spacious legroom or those faster speeds, these cars are some of the most inefficient rides you can find on the road. In fact, after going through this list, you’ll wonder why people even take these cars out the next time you see them out in the wild.

Here are the top 10 cars that guzzle the most gas!

2022 Toyota Sequoia

2022 Toyota Sequoia

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia is a massive SUV that can fit up to eight people. With its 437-horsepower engine, it's even capable of going off-road, letting you take on all sorts of terrain. However, with all that size and all that horsepower, it's one of the biggest gas guzzlers you can get your hands on.

With a mileage of just 14 MPG, you'll be spending a lot more on gas compared to other SUVs. But it does manage to win some points back with its modern driving features and good handling.

It’s no surprise that a Ford Mustang would be on this list, with each version having one of the most powerful engines in the market. The 2020 model is no exception, featuring a supercharged V8 5.2-liter engine that can reach 7500 RPM. So you can only imagine just how much gas a car like this would need.

With an average fuel economy of 14 MPG, the 760 horsepower engine promises extraordinary performance, as long as you don’t mind the money you’ll be paying for gas. But even with all those considerations in mind, it still makes for a comfortable ride that can easily cross 160mph when needed.

Among all of the luxury cars, the 2021 Lexus LX 570 is a complete package. It is a powerful vehicle that can go from zero to sixty in just 7.3 seconds while giving Rolls Royce a run for its money in terms of comfort. But lugging around this massive SUV does mean that you’ll be paying a lot more in gas.

Equipped with a 5.7-liter V8 engine, the fuel economy of Lexus counts for 12 MPG in the city and 16 MPG on the highway, making an average runup of 14 MPG. This powerful engine also has an astounding towing capacity of 7000 pounds. And as a bonus, you also get a built-in cold box to keep all your drinks cold when you’re on longer journeys.

The 2022 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 is a midsize pickup truck that guarantees strong performance. It is an especially popular choice for people who want a versatile truck without the bulky size. It also offers robust steering and handling that ensures a comfortable ride.

Of course, this pickup truck features a heavy 4-cylinder V8 engine with 420 horsepower that can still burn through your tank with just 17 MPG. While this isn’t the worst in terms of pickups, it’s not great for its smaller size.

The Ram 1500 TRX truly lives up to its title of a luxury pickup truck. It has comfortable interiors, a powerful engine, a highly customizable design, and mileage poor enough to make anyone think twice. It features a heavy 702 horsepower engine with an audible roar, which is hard to hear thanks to the soundproof interiors.

The soundproofing is so good that you can’t hear yourself contemplating how much you’ll pay for gas at the next stop. You can get about 19 MPG on average, but keeping that in mind, it offers one of the best power-to-luxury ratios in the market.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep is possibly best known for its incredible off-roading capabilities. But while it’s always been good at managing all sorts of terrain, it’s never been very good at managing its mileage. While it certainly does better than other entries on this list, the Grand Cherokee is still worth mentioning.

You can tow over 7000 pounds with ease with its 360 horsepower V8 engine, and the interiors offer a luxurious feel to cushion out the bumps when you’re off-roading. You can expect an average of 21 MPG, which could dip a lot lower if you’re not driving on the road.

2020 BMW X5

The 2020 BMW X5 is possibly the best-looking car out of all the entries in this list. But unlike some of the other cars on this list, this BMW has more manageable mileage at 22 MPG. This SUV offers a Turbocharged V8, 456 horsepower engine with a 0 to 60 of just 4.2 seconds.

It also offers superb handling, luxurious interiors, and surprisingly good off-roading capabilities. While its fuel consumption is still lower than others on this list, it still falls short of competitors like the Audi Q7 or the Mercedes GLE class.

2020 Jeep Gladiator

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is an interesting addition to our list. In terms of fuel economy, it isn’t the worst out of these cars. However, when compared to its contemporaries in terms of its handling capabilities and general performance, it misses the mark.

While the EPA gives it a fuel economy of 22 MPG, test drives show it to be 15 MPG. Drivers have also complained that driving feels clumsy, making it a fancy-looking car that you can only use occasionally.

2022 BMW X6

The BMW X6 is an updated version of the X5, and it especially improves its overall mileage. However, considering the fact that it’s a hybrid, its 23 MPG fuel economy could still use some work.

But as for its other features, it doesn’t disappoint. It comes with a 335 turbo-charged engine, luxurious interiors, plenty of comfortable space, and all sorts of modern features. As a complete package, it stands tall with its other Mercedes and Audi competition.
