The 2018 Ford Expedition is the aluminum-bodied SUV you’ve been waiting for. The new frame extends the wheelbase and length while also making it 300 lbs lighter. If you’re in the market for an Expedition, our trim comparison will help you decide which model suits you best.
XLT
The XLT is the base trim, starting at $51,695. It comes with a 3.5L Ecoboost V6 engine that’s capable of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, which allows it to tow up to 9,300 pounds according to Ford. This large SUV is great for someone who needs a vehicle for work or to fit a larger family. Drivers can easily let down both the second- and third-row seating for maximum cargo space or leave them up for enough room to seat eight passengers.
If safety is a worry, the 2018 Ford Expedition features an SOS post-crash alert system, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, and a rear-view camera with backup assist grid lines and washer. The infotainment system is on par with other larger SUVs with the addition of SYNC, a 4.2-inch LCD screen, two USB ports, and nine speakers with speed-compensated volume.
Do you need more room? The Expedition XLT MAX is the better choice due to it being a foot longer than the XLT. This accommodates for an additional 16.9 cubic-feet of cargo space. All the other features are the same. This trim has a starting MSRP of $54,385.
Limited
The Limited trim starts at $62,585 and adds a touch of luxury. On top of everything that comes with the XLT, the Limited trim adds heated second-row seating and Top Hide leather-wrapped steering wheel with dark parchment euro stitching. The sound system is also upgraded to include B&O PLAY and a premium audio system by HARMAN, which installs 12 speakers in the cabin and features HD radio. Safety-wise, the Limited also has a forward-sensing system.
If you need more cargo space, the Limited also has a MAX option starting at $65,270. Like the XLT MAX, the Limited MAX adds 16.9 cubic feet of cargo space and includes everything that the Limited has.
Platinum
Lastly, the Platinum is the most luxurious option and starts at $72,710. It comes with everything the Limited has and so much more. The biggest improvement is the power upgrade that increases the horsepower to 400 and torque to 480 lb.-ft. The exterior adds satin aluminum roof-rack side rails and a power-deployable running board for easy entry. On the inside, it has wood accents that beautifully accompany the Wollsdorf leather-wrapped steering wheel. The leather continues to the door trim and seating for a truly superior feel throughout the cabin. The final touch is a Panoramic Vista Roof with power open and close for sunny days.
Like the other trims, the Platinum MAX is also an option for those who crave more cargo space. For $75,400, you can get the Platinum MAX with an extra 16.9 cubic feet of space to carry whatever you need.
