Which 2019 Audi Q5 Is Right for You?

Following a 2018 redesign, the Audi Q5 only has minor upgrades for this model year. But the Q5 doesn't need to be completely redesigned to compete with the other vehicles in its segment.

It more than holds its own against the competition (like the Acura RDX), to remain at the top of the luxury compact crossover list. It may only have three trim levels to choose from, but these offerings are full of safety features and amenities you are sure to love.

Which trim is the best bang for your buck? We take a deep-dive into each one, showing you what's standard and what's additional.

Premium

The 2019 Audi Q5 Premium is the base-level trim with a starting MSRP of $42,950. It features the standard 2.0-liter turbocharged TFSI engine and quattro all-wheel-drive. The engine is capable of 248hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. The EPA rated fuel economy at 22 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

When it comes to features the Q5 Premium has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, as well as Audi connect CARE. This suite of assistance and security services includes SOS calls, online roadside assistance, and also stolen vehicle location. The exterior features 18-inch wheels that have a 5-double-spoke-dynamic design. Standard safety offerings include Audi's pre sense basic and pre sense city technology. These include forward collision warnings and braking assistance, as well as other preventative measures to keep occupants safe in the event of an impending crash.

Premium Plus

The 2019 Audi Q5 Premium Plus is the middle-tier trim level. At a starting MSRP of $49,950, the Q5 Premium has the same engine and AWD of the previous trim. Standard upgrades include larger 19-inch wheels and full LED headlights. Additionally, passengers will appreciate the newly standard panoramic sunroof. Up front for the driver are a standard Audi virtual cockpit and MMI Navigation plus. Furthermore, safety features are enhanced to include Audi side assist and Audi pre sense rear with rear cross traffic assist and vehicle exit assist.

Prestige

Lastly, the 2019 Audi Q5 Prestige is the top-of-the-line trim. It includes all of the safety and luxury features you would expect in a modern luxury compact crossover. Adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist and active lane assist will take the headache out of commuting to work. Plus, a top view camera system and park steering assist will make finding the perfect parking space a breeze. There is even a head-up display that projects relevant information to the driver. Without taking your eyes off the road, you will be able to see warning messages, speed limits, and your speed.

Also, other standard features include a power adjustable steering column and a Bang & Olufsen sound system. This perfectly tuned 755-watt audio system has 19 speakers, a 16-channel amplifier, and 3D sound. The starting MSRP for the Q5 Prestige is $53,850.

Additional Packages & Options

Once buyers choose their preferred trim, they have the option of purchasing additional packages and options. We will mention three specific ones because they include features that many buyers may have been expecting or seen as standard offerings on other vehicles.

First, the Black Optic Package is strictly for appearances. It has larger 20-inch tires, as well as matte black roof rails and titanium black exterior trim. We don't think the shiny chrome accents are overdone on the Q5 (unlike some other automakers). But if you are a fan of the dark-and-brooding look, this package darkens the overall aesthetic for an added $1,300.

Secondly, there is the Cold Weather Package. This is aimed at drivers in cold weather climates to help them warm up. The main feature is the addition of heated rear seats, though it also comes with a heated steering wheel that features shift paddles. It will cost an extra $750, which is in line with other automaker offers.

Thirdly, buyers can opt for a Warm Weather Package for $1,450. This changes the seat design to a sport style while also adding ventilation. It is possible to add on both the Cold Weather and Warm Weather Packages to the same vehicle. They aren't exclusionary; though, this extra cost seems a bit high to us, even with the change in seat style.
