Every so often we get a vehicle that looks completely different and new. That vehicle is the Toyota C-HR. It has the tagline of "color outside the lines," and we can see why. The profile reminds us of a sedan but offers an SUV-like hatchback proportion. There aren't many things on the road that look quite like it. We’re taking a look at the trims for this model to see what Toyota has to offer.
LE
With only three trims, the Toyota C-HR has brought simplicity to the car buying process. The base trim is the 2019 Toyota C-HR LE with a starting MSRP of $21,145. It comes with a 2.0-liter 4-Cylinder DOHC engine that’s capable of 144 horsepower and 139 lb.-ft of torque.
While not very powerful, it’s enough power for most drivers. It also allows the C-HR to get up to 27 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The exterior of the C-HR is certainly unique, but it also has aerodynamic functions. It comes with a rear spoiler and fins that assist in reducing drag.
The exterior features 17-in steel wheels and body-colored door handles. The body-colored outside mirrors also come with turn indicators. On the inside, the C-HR LE comes with Sport fabric-trimmed bucket seats and a urethane tilt/telescopic steering wheel.
Being the base trim, there is remote keyless entry but no remote start. Similarly, there is no option to purchase additional upgrades for this trim. This makes it budget-friendly but also causes it to miss out on some better features.
XLE
Starting at $22,500, the 2019 Toyota C-HR XLE is still affordable. For those with allergies, you’ll be happy to know that the interior cabin uses a dual-zone automatic climate control with a pollen filter to keep out pesky particles that could irritate you.
Additionally, the same Sport fabric-trimmed seats from the previous trim are here, but the steering wheel is now leather-trimmed. The multimedia package includes Apple CarPlay compatibility, AM/FM radio, six speakers, 2.0 USB port, auxiliary audio jack, Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition with voice training, phonebook access, HD Radio, and steering wheel controls. The infotainment screen is 8-inches.
The best thing about the 2019 Toyota C-HR is the safety features that make it secure for all drivers. The Toyota Safety Sense package adds a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alerts with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. The C-HR ups the ante by also including a blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert. This is not found on the base trim.
Limited
The 2019 Toyota C-HR Limited includes all the features found in the C-HR XLE and starts at $24,350. If you’re considering between the two, it’s definitely worth the upgrade. One of the most advanced options is the touch-activated lock and unlock. It works by sensing your keyfob and allowing you to open your vehicle without fiddling around with your keys. This feature also works on the rear hatchback door.
Along with this advanced system, the C-HR Limited also uses a Smart Key System on the front doors with Push Button Start and remote keyless entry. This means you can start your vehicle and let it warm up during the winter. Alternatively, you can let the cabin cool down for passengers during the hot summer. This trim also has rain-sensing windshield wipers and chrome window trim accenting.
The inside adds comfort by including heated front bucket seats and eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with sport bolsters and power lumbar support. The passenger seat is a six-way adjustable setup with sport bolsters. All seats are also leather-trimmed in the C-HR Limited.
Finally, safety also improves with the addition of high-performance LED front fog lights. We suggest this trim as the best bang for your buck for most buyers.
