Outback
The base 2020 Subaru Outback trim is simply called...Outback. It starts at $26,645. Even though it’s the least expensive, the base Subaru Outback has some great features that make it a quality, affordable option. First, it has Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with X-Mode, which optimizes your Subaru to drive up steep inclines or rough roads. It also comes with the Subaru Starlink multimedia package, adding Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Finally, this trim has raised roof rails with integrated crossbars for more cargo space. The base trim even features EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. This system combines adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and pre-collision braking. Subaru says that it reduces the rate of rear-end crashes by up to 85% according to IIHS reporting data.
Outback Premium
The 2020 Subaru Outback Premium starts at $28,895. This trim is perfect for drivers who are concerned about security and safety. It has the Subaru Starlink Safety and Security connected services, which adds automatic collision notification, SOS emergency assistance, vehicle security alarm notifications, enhanced roadside assistance, and more. The Outback Premium also includes an All-Weather package with heated front seats. It also has the option of adding blind-spot detection with lane change assist. That's not an available option on the base Outback trim.
Outback Limited
The 2020 Outback Limited has a starting MSRP of $33,445. This trim is perfect for buyers who want a good sound system coupled with a little bit of luxury. Drivers will immediately notice the leather-trimmed upholstery and keyless access featuring Push-Button Start. There are also heated outboard seats in the rear. Additionally, this trim comes with a Harmon Kardon premium audio system that uses 12-speakers with a 576-watt-equivalent GreenEdge amplifier. As if that wasn’t enough, it also has a hands-free power rear gate. You'll never have to manually raise the back liftgate again.
Outback Limited XT
For the final two trims, the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine makes a reappearance. The 2020 Outback Limited XT starts at $37,745. Think of it as a cousin of the Outback Limited trim but with a more powerful engine. The major differences from the Outback Limited are the additions of a power moonroof, heated steering wheel, and navigation in the infotainment multimedia system.
Outback Onyx Edition XT
We recommend the 2020 Subaru Onyx Edition XT for outdoor enthusiasts. It starts at $34,895 and has a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. This bumps the power up to 260 hp and torque to 277 lb-ft. It also increases the max towing capacity to 3,500 pounds. Sporty outdoor explorers will appreciate the StarTex water-repellent upholstery. The dual-function X-MODE with hill descent control will also help you get anywhere you need to go off the beaten path. Finally, the Outback Onyx Edition XT's 18-inch alloy wheels have a black finish. This gives a sportier appearance to the vehicle as a whole.
Outback Touring
Are you looking for something more luxurious than off-road-focused? The 2020 Outback Touring starts at $37,345. Even though the price is higher than the Outback Onyx Edition XT, the Outback Touring has the less powerful 2.5-liter (non-turbocharged) engine of the first three trim levels. Instead of paying for a high-performance engine, the price point here goes to amenities and convenience features. Chrome finishing accents dot the door handles and folding side mirrors. Drivers will also appreciate the ventilated front seats and heated steering wheel. Speaking of seats, they are upgraded to Nappa leather-trimmed upholstery. Furthermore, the Starlink 11.6-inch multimedia infotainment system comes with navigation. We recommend this trim as the best bang for your buck for most buyers (who aren't outdoor enthusiasts).
Outback Touring XT
The 2020 Outback Touring XT starts at $39,695 and has all the same standard features as the Outback Touring. The only difference is that this trim features the more powerful 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. It is worth noting that the more powerful engine lowers fuel economy to 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. That's around a 10% drop in overall fuel economy.
