At #5 on the list is the Hyundai Sonata, with 21,707 thefts nationwide. Hyundai’s commitment to safety makes this car appealing to consumers. 

Police are warning Hyundai and Kia owners not to leave USB plugs visible in their car, as it is a popular tool thieves are using to start stolen cars.

A popular, best-selling midsize sedan, the Honda Accord ranks #4 among the most stolen cars in 2022.

According to the IICB, the most stolen model out of the 27,089 stolen in 2022 was the 1997 model– the only model in this list from the 90s.

Sitting at #3 is the one and only Honda Civic. One of the most popular vehicles in the U.S., it’s unsurprising that this would be a target for thieves.

Like most of the cars on this list, a combination of its popularity and demand for parts make it a prime interest for criminals. It was determined that the 2000 model was the most stolen out of 27,113, of course, due to low-tech security features. 

The Ford Pickup, one of the most popular vehicles in America, comes in as the #2 most stolen vehicle. With over 48,000 thefts nationwide, this truck is loved by owners and thieves alike. If you own or are considering owning the Ford pickup, especially the 2006 model, stay vigilant.

The popularity of this vehicle, combined with the need for car parts, made this truck a beacon for criminals.

The #1 most stolen car, coming in with a whopping 49,903 thefts nationwide, is the Chevrolet Pickup. This truck saw a shocking 25.7% increase in thefts from 2019 to 2020, leaving thousands of owners at a loss.
